Echota Cherokee Artist
Michael McAllister is a 28 year old Echota Cherokee who has found his niche in a family with a variety of artistic talents. Both his Grandmother and his Mother are award-winning painters. He is the son of internationally known artist Pat McAllister.
Michael has chosen a unique expression for his talent. He has combined the ancient Indian (i.e. India) art form of batiking with the age-old petrogliphs of the Mimbres Tribe. Using these petrogliphs as his subject matter, he creates a batik with a very contemporary Southwest look.
Showing his work for the first time in 1998 at Haskell Indian University; Michael's work has been very well received by the public.
Michael was selected to participate in the Ohio Center For Native American Affairs.
"The Exhibit is designed to educate the attending public on the wide variety of art forms representing the diverse tribal affiliations of both established and emerging Native artists. Ten Native American artists from Ohio and other areas of the country will be featured"
